accommodation, activities...

Table Mountain
The view from Table Mountain down to Cape Town and its surrounding area is breathtaking. The cable car however cannot be used during windy weather or when the summit of the mountain is covered in clouds. Be flexible about your trip on top of Table Mountain! Some people say the best time to be on Table Mountain is during sunset when you can watch the night moving into town. The last cable car leaves Table Mountain only after sunset!
You can also enjoy wonderful views over Cape Town from the lower station of the cable car!

Lion’s Head
The more energetic will enjoy a hike on top of Table Mountain or Lion's Head (start of the hike is en route to Signal Hill). Due to the constantly changing weather you should better take a local guide.

Signal Hill
From Signal Hill (this is where a salute was fired every day at 12.00 o’clock to welcome the seamen!) another remarkable view down to the City Centre and up to Table Mountain and to the Twelve Apostles can be enjoyed. On a sunny evening the locals like to go their to see the sunset – accompanied by a nice bottle of champagne.

Camps Bay
While travelling the coastal road from Cape Town to the Cape you can enjoy a spectacular view over the nice beaches of Camps Bay with the mountain range of the Twelve Apostles as a backdrop. You can get the best views from the parking area between Clifton and Camps Bay (on the right side).
An alternative road to Camps Bay is via Kloofnek Street. At the roundabout (Table mountain to the left, Signal hill to the right) carry on straight to Camps Bay. There is also the possibilty to take another Kloof Road in a right hand direction (don't get mixed up with Signal Hill). If you take Kloof Road keep to the left and carry on with Victoria Road along the seaside. Both roads from Kloofnek are worth a drive!

The Southern suburbs of Clifton and Camps Bay are both known for their fine beaches. The Clifton beaches that are not affected by winds can only be seen when you leave your car on one of the parking areas (left side of the road) and walk down the narrow paths to the seaside.

Chapman's Peak Drive
Further South towards the Cape of Good Hope there are more nice view points. The most famous of these is Chapman's Peak just South of Hout Bay. Hout Bay is also a retreat for Southern Right Whales during the winter and spring months. Take a boat trip to Duiker Island (from Hout Bay several cruises leave almost throughout the day) to see a huge seal colony and get Whale watching for free!

M 65 from Scarborough to Kommetjie
Fantastic views can be enjoyed along the M 65 from Scarborough to Kommetjie

Bloubergstrand
If it’s not too windy you should also travel North to Blouberg Beach in order to get the best panoramic view of Cape Town and the Table Mountain
.

Sir Lowry's Pass
On top of Sir Lowry's Pass (see picture above) on the N2 en route to Caledon, 17 km from Somerset West, you can find also a beautiful view point overlooking False Bay.
