Swellendam
Swellendam, the third oldest town in South Africa. Swellendam was founded in 1745 and laid out at the foot of Langeberg mountains. Many historic buildings can be seen in the city centre. The most famous is the Drostdy (government outpost of the old Cape colony) with its museum. Swellendam is the ideal stopover for travelers on the way from Cape Town to the Garden Route or into the Little Karoo. Or what about a hike in the beautiful surroundings of this historic town.

Bontebok National Park
Just outside town the Bontebok National Park awaits you. This small nature reserve is home of the bontebok, the famous antelope of the Cape..

Tradouws Pass...
From Swellendam you follow the N 2 for 11 km. Then take the turnoff towards Barrydale. You'll now travel Tradouws Pass into the semi desert of the Little Karoo. Don't forget to stop at the wonderful farm stalls in Barrydale and/or Ladismith where local products can be enjoyed.
