Tzaneen, an attractive and modern town, is situated in a beautiful surrounding underneath the Northern slopes of the Drakensberg mountain range.
The Town was founded in 1912. Its name either goes back to the tribe "ba Tsaneng" that settled in the area or the word "tsana" which means basket. Tzaneen nestles beautifully in the Letaba river valley with mountain ranges in the backdrop. Good rains (approx. 1.000mm/year) and a warm climate throughout the year favour a lush vegetation. Subtropical fruit, tea, coffee, nuts, flowers and timber grow in abundance. Tzaneen is the centre of the Limpopo Province Lowveld region.
While travelling the Letaba district you can enjoy "colonial Africa" and the culture of several tribes.
Kruger National Park (R71 to Phalaborwa Gate) is just an hours drive away.

Showgardens
This beautiful corner of the Limpopo Province has its own Garden Route which visitors may tour at their leisure. Some magnificent Show Gardens are open to the public and a tour of some of these is highly recommended for the plant lover! Various tea gardens offering local delicacies can also be visited whilst touring the Garden Route.
In September the Cheerio Garden near Magoebaskloof is attracting many visitors for fine azalea flowers. The wonderful landscaped gardens of Kingswalden are also a must. Here you can enjoy sweeping views along the escarpment and down into the neverending lowveld. Take your time here and if you want you can also stay overnight!
